A Unique Forest Bathing Experience in Bijagua: Trail, River and Forest
A trail to slow down
13 stations, in 3 languages
All along the route, 13 signs in French, English and Spanish invite you to pause for a moment: listen to the current of a river, discover the native stingless bees, look at the banana and cacao trees, glance up in hopes of spotting a sloth, or take three slow breaths. You will walk through tropical crops, regenerating areas, streams and a forest that is rebuilding itself, including along the Bijagua River, whose bed was reshaped by Hurricane Otto in 2016.
Silence
To get the most out of your forest bath, we recommend doing it in silence. That way, you’ll be able to hear everything around you and might even spot birds like these:
Practical information
- Trail length: 45 minutes to 1 hour
- Level: easy
- What to bring: closed shoes, insect repellent, water and a swimsuit.
Cool off in the river
From the forest bathing trail or from the yoga trail, you have two access points to the river, where you can cool off in crystal-clear water.
Hike to the Bijagua Falls, no car needed
The Bijagua Falls trail is about 500 m from Villa El Tucán: a short walk along a quiet path, where you can still enjoy nature, leads to the trailhead (intermediate level). No car needed. There is an admission fee for the waterfall trail, which can be paid at the front desk of the nearby lodging. You’re entitled to a 30% discount—ask us for the coupon before you go. Allow 2½ to 3 hours for the round trip, and be sure to bring sturdy shoes, insect repellent, a bottle of water, and a swimsuit.
Included for our guests
The property’s trails, including the forest bathing trail, as well as access to the river, are included in your stay. We are about 12 km from Tenorio Volcano National Park (Río Celeste), so you can combine a day of excursions with quieter moments on site.
